Cataracts is a condition which clouds and blurs a patient's eyesight. This condition can seriously impair your vision and even cause blindness. Cataracts most often develops as a result of aging (patients over 40 are at increasingly high risk for this disease), but diabetes, hypertension, and ophthalmological issues can also lead to this condition. Our doctors can assess your eyes for cataracts during a routine examination. If you are diagnosed with cataracts, we will most likely recommend surgery to correct this issue, which is the only current cure for the disease.
If you suffer from cataracts, Dr. Lalin can perform laser surgery to repair your eyes and restore your vision. Before your procedure, he will use 3-D OCT scans to create a detailed model of your eye. He will then use this information to design your surgical plan and input it into our computerized laser system for extremely precise treatment. During surgery, your doctor will remove the damaged lens and replace the clouded lens with an intraocular lens (IOL).
Many patients who suffer from cataracts also struggle with astigmatism, a condition where improperly shaped corneas cause blurred or hazy vision. Fortunately, we can perform astigmatism treatment during laser cataract surgery to clarify and sharpen your vision. During this procedure, your surgeon will perform cataract surgery with our femtosecond laser, and he will also use special incisions to adjust your corneal shape.
